Me Curling!!!! It's Harder than it looks. Trust me. |
Ok, I'm gonna cut right to the chase. I'm going to talk about now, not then. Today (10/2/2012) we had our winter carnival, where the junior highs (grades 7,8 and 9) planned activities for the younger kids. The group I was in did Parachute Bombing, and I was with Bailey, Jill and Amanda. I know names don't mean much, but there will be photos. Bailey and Jill emailed us pre-going-to-Canada, and Amanda is a new friend, along with Trista, Trisha, Jade, Jordan, Jasmine, Sydney (a taste of home!), Martina, Janyl, Kenedi, Jaylynn (she is the cutest person you will ever meet! she loves hugs and new things) and many more. Anyway, back on topic. The little kids tossed beanbags and tried to hit the center. Whoever came first got 'candy' (no, not our horse, lollies!), 2nd place got a sticker and 3rd and 4th got a high five (awesome, right?!?:) ) then, if we still had time, we'd play parachute games like mushroom and shark. In mushroom, all you do is lift up the parachute and quickly race under it and sit on the brim of it. If you succeed, you should just about see everyone! Shark is lots of fun. There are 2 sharks, 2 life guards and the rest of the people sit on the ground with their legs under the parachute. The sharks (who are under the parachute) pull on other people's legs until they are completely underneath the parachute, then they too become a shark. But wait! There is a catch. The life guards try and save the people from being turned into sharks. Towards the end of the day, we got to abandon our game and hand it over to a fellow jr. high (for some reason they had joined a group of the little kids and followed them around) and go on a horse drawn wagon! It was pretty cool. The thing I liked about the ride was the smell of horses. Aaah. although Canada has a lot of horses, you can't smell them. But you can smell the cow poop and pig slew. Aaaagh!! P-u! The best part of the day (other than the free hot chocolate, hot dogs and cookies) was when Bailey and I rolled down the hill for no particular reason.:)
The little kids are really interested in Josie and I, they think we're friendly aliens or something! Of course, they ask alot of questions, but that's ok. Clandonald is a really tight nit community, so all the kids are all friends! Math is REALLY easy (thank you Mr Noad and Mr Cook!), I learnt all the stuff these guys are struggling with last year! Science and Social (history) were a little tricky because I came at the tail end of them, but they'll be fine now that we've started a new unit. We have PE everyday, but I'm getting tired of doing the same thing all the time... BASKETBALL! It's fun, but we play it alot. speaking of basketball, Josie and I are playing it. We have played 3 games already, and won one. We have another this weekend. We have also joined the curling team. I LOVE curling, but Jose only thinks it to be ok. W don't get to play in curling tornaments, 'cos we're not that good at it and you can only have 4 players on a team, so the other girls play. For another subject, drama, we are doing film studies and we got to make a one-shot -wonder! Trista, Jill, Bailey and I did a news cast about a first time Australian speed skater (me) won against the 23 time Norwegian gold medalist (Trista) because she 'biffeder' (wiped out). Bailey was the reporter and Jill was this random bobsledder who decides, right in the middle of a 'news cast' to take up extreme ice tubing because Canada had run out of snow. We had a blast filming it. Quickly, before I go, we are all heading off to school for 'movie night', in which we're watching The Muppets. Should be fun!
It's been ages since I've written on this page, and we've done heaps (at school)! Watched the Muppets.... a piece of advice.... if your under 40, don't watch it. If your over 40, do watch it. We had Pink Shirt day on 29/2/2012, it's an annual event in which you wear a pink shirt as a protest against bullying. Our girl's basketball team (Ironically called cougars:) ) won the bronze medal! we lost our first game in the finals against Marwayne, but won our second game against The Marauders (????unknown school????) to win an overall of 3rd in the division. We also came second lat, cos' there were only 4 teams in the finals (usually there's more)! I heard a funny expression tht pretty much sums up our feelings: "if you cant get gold, get bronze; you have to lose to get silver, but you have to win to get bronze." Tada! here's our cheers that pump us up for the game after each 4 8 minute periods: "BLUE, BLUE, WHITE, WHITE, LET'S GO! LET'S FIGHT! GOOOOOO COUGARS!!!!" and "TWO ONE!!! COUGARS!".
What else has been happening? Well, I'm acing math cos' I did all this stuff LAST year, and we've had several tests because we had our end of year report cards sent home (they start school in July rather than a week or two after New Year like us). That's about it.
