Lake Louise.....
After days exploring the Badlands it was time for some rest & recreation......skiing, just the thing....for a rest?!
On the way to Lake Louise, we stopped in Canmore, to pick up Hannah ( Conlan), who had arrived here to work at a camp in Exshaw ( a small place between Canmore & Calgary). Having an hour or so to kill before she arrived, we hit downtown Canmore........the girls wanting to re-visit the lolly shop, I had spied a hat shop & Vin made a bee-line to the music shop that had been closed when we were here before...... everyone was happy!!! The time came for us to pick up Hannah, but we couldn't drag Vin away from the guitars.....so the girls & I went to get her. How wonderful to see her beautiful face....instant Australia hit! By the time we got back to the music shop......Vin had bought himself a 1920's banjo.....a gorgeous instrument, a happy man!! Unfortunately, all of Canmore was experiencing a blackout, so with payment details etc... exchanged, it was time to head up the "hill" to Lake Louise, its about halfway along the Icefields Parkway, between Banff & Jasper. We had scored a two day "spring special" at one of the hotels .......fairly posh, but worth it, as we were a 5 minute drive from the ski fields..... The first day was an all girl affair......Vin had collected a bug from somehere & was not well. We left him with medicine, drinks & the doctors phone number....and his assurances (through chattering teeth) that he would be ok. It didn't feel right, but away we went........ We were back by midday........ After getting up the mountain, all geared up & rearing to go, ten minute gondola ride, faced down the first run......Hannah had a (spectacular!??) fall, twisted her knee & got a free toboggan ride back down the hill ( that she said was extremely frightening) !!!!! Trip to local doctor, leg in a brace, painkillers, but thankfully nothing broken.......an exterme way to go about getting a good rest!? The bizarre thing was....the date....Fri 13th. I hope i didn't jinx us by passing comment on it on the way up the mountain???? In Hannah's ( & my) defence.....bad aunty, I was supposed to be looking out for her.......even though the signs said "easiest way back to chalet"...it was the steepest green runs we had been on...... Okay.....now I have two patients......... |
Patient #1 had recovered sufficiently by the next day, so leaving patient #2 with medicine, drinks & phone numbers.......we tried again & managed to make it through the day with no injuries or illness. In fact, we had a great day skiing.
Hannah had also managed to have a good day, sleeping & reading, albeit juiced to the eyeballs on iboprufen!!! |
Patient #2........at least she was still smiling.......rest & recuperation??!!
