Branding at the Nawrot Farm.....
On a beautiful, sunny Saturday in early June......we were invited to the Nawrots place to "help" with the branding of their calves. We did help to get them in to the yards, but then we figured the best way to help was to stay out of the way!!!
Josie was not keen to help herd the cattle into the yard....."they're alot bigger than sheep"!!!!
Once the actual branding was under way, the three of us stepped right back......
The Nawrot family were liked a well oiled machine......everyone had their job to do...........branding, vaccination, ear-tagging, photographic record, sustenance, utterance of
"sheep-yard" words.........
Till, Josie & I all agreed......marking sheep might be hot & dusty work, but cattle (looked!) a whole lot harder!
Where was Vin, I hear you say?
He had disappeared early that morning ......to go fishing, with Rob & Zac Koebel at Eleanor Lake. He was taken to the "secret" fishing spot...... guaranteed a good haul.
I mean...branding cattle or fishing.....what a choice!
The day was glorious, the fish were biting.......
The laws in Alberta are such that you are only allowed to bag a couple of fish each person.......you can catch as many as possible, just kiss most of them & put them back in the water. The boys did a lot of kissing that day! Between the three of them, they caught 172 fish.....Vin caught 50, Rob 55 & Zac topped out at 67 fish.....or so the story goes. You know you can never trust a fisherman & their stories!?! Sadly, there is no photographic evidence of this monster haul (???) ........too busy reeling them in!!
Of course, they only came back with their bag limit & they were delicious!

Now there's a cattle man with style!
Jess & two of the support crew........again, check out the footwear......I don't think the two on the fence ever had any intention of actually doing any work?!
Nawrot crew & support team........at rest.......Thomas, Lori, Clayton, Nicole, Meaghan, Till, Josie, Cam, Jess & James
Branded.......4N...............
