At the end of May, Vin's Mum, Terry & two sisters, Mary & Cathy came to visit. They are an intrepid trio and had come to us via Korea, Ireland, Germany & Poland...... We were lucky to have them for about a week & although they were fairly exhausted from their travels, we did mange to show them some of the sights! When they first arrived, we stayed in Edmonton for a couple of days....to recover & to have a look around. After a good nights sleep, a hearty breakfast & carting a bit of jet lag....we all went to Fort Edmonton, a fantastic park that showcases the evolution of Edmonton from the early fur trading days to the present. A beautifully restored steam train took us from the entrance up to the end of the park.....the beginning of the history of Edmonton.....the Fort, replica buildings from the days of the fur trading. From there we walked through the development of Edmonton....the buildings, stores, transport & houses becoming more sophisticated...... It was a fantastic way to get a dose of Canadian history! The fish & chips at the pub were pretty good too!!! Before we left Edmonton we also took Terry, Mary & Cathy to see West Edmonton Mall. Ok, we know its just a huge shopping centre, but you still have to see it once! Not every shopping mall has amusement parks, an ice rink, waterpark & a full size pirate ship!! |
Checking out the fire set-up, tasting bannock & watching the beading......
