Drumheller...the Canadian Badlands
Easter Holidays.....ten days off...time to go adventuring!
We had originally planned to set sail on the maiden voyage with Holly.....but were persuaded otherwise by the locals......Pat & Ralph....Jodi......in fact, just about everyone we spoke to ...."are you crazy!!! ...You will freeze!....there's snow storms predicted you know......no-one uses their RV's until May at least....there are no camp grounds open until May...." So we heeded their advice...... The night before we left Pat & Ralph came to visit bearing gifts.....chocolate & soft bunny's for the girls & for Vin & I ...a shower tent & fire alarm for the camper! Thanks guys....beautiful, thoughtful, practical x With the car all packed up the next morning we began our adventure into the badlands of Canada...... We travelled along the prairies until the road dropped away......into Drumheller.....home of THE big dinosaur, the Royal Tyrrell Museum, fossil capital..... Prehistoric landscape.....formed by the melting ice age....... Red Deer River.....layers of sedimentary rock exposed..... "Dinosaur Capital of the World" !!!! |
Drumheller.....dinosaur & fossil capital..... |
Headquarters....complete with a pancake house attached......
This pancake place next to the motel was sensational & where we had our Easter sunday breakfast feast
Not only was the food fresh & bountiful...the service incredible & the decor...oh my! Nick-nacks, bric-a-brac, dinosaur mural on the back wall.... There was so much to look at my head was spinning like I was the star of the Exorcist !!! (apologies to anyone too young to get this....go google it!) The most spectacular thing was the two tracks of model train circling under the ceiling...with models of super heroes in the caboose...aquaman, spiderman & oscar the grouch!!?! I tried to photograph it but they don't do it justice..... |
It certainly was an incredible landscape............
